Coins on a trotro were just some of the many interesting things that were seen from riding in Ghana's public transport system... Ghana's public transport system isn't entirely public. Well the transport system open to the public consists of trotros (converted minibuses), big buses (AKA Kufour buses, named after the current president who brought them in) and shared or private taxis. The pictures here were taken on a trotro I took from Ashiye. The dashboard of this trotro was stylishly sporting this collection of coins. Most of the coins as far as I can tell are Ghanaian. The only ones I can see that aren't are the British penny on the top left and another on the bottom right. If you can spot any other non-Ghanaian coins, let me know. None of The Ghanaian coins displayed on the dashboard however, are used any longer. The drastic devaluation of the Cedi from the 80's rendered these coins pretty much useless, with 10,000 cedi note being regularly used.
Now however, with the re-denomination of the Cedi last year reinstated some new coins, which can be seen at the Ghana Cedi webpage.
