He is hailed as the father of Nu-Soul, but at the same time is probably the most underated soul artist in our time. Omar Lye-Fook, at the Jazz Cafe. I have been writing this journal for over 3 months now, and have over 100 entries. Yet I have not dedicated any of my entries to the place where I grew up and spent most of my life, England. So this shall be the first, and will be dedicated to one of my favourite past times, live music, at one of my favourite venues, The Jazz Cafe in Camdon, London, and more specifically about one of my favourite artists, Omar. He first shot to fame with his first album in 1990, named "There's nothing like this", with one of his most famous singles under the same name. Since then he has released 6 other albums which has redefined UK soul, and brought it to a higher level. He has worked very closely with Stevie Wonder in the past working on one of his albums. This particular venue, The Jazz Cafe is a small venue in the center of Camdon in London, and has featured many live performances from Angie Stone, Musiq Soul Child, David Benoit, Jimmy Smith and John Schofield among many others. Omar himself has performed at the Jazz Cafe many times selling out the venue each time, and this was no exception. His trademark keyboard solo's featuring the deep base Clavi sound played on his Nord Electro could be heard over many of his tunes. The band as always was amazing, and I was especially impressed by the drummer Josh McKenzie, a young, up and comming sensation in the London Jazz and Soul music scene. For those into Nu Soul, or funky jazz, Omar comes highly recommended, and his live performances more so. You can check out his website for more information. Here's one of my favourite Omar tracks, "Last Request". You should also check out his Number 1 hit, "There's nothing like this"
