Everyone! It's been about two and a half years since the smoking ban in the UK, but for some reason, I notice it much more than I used to. It could be just that people are smoking outside more, as they can't smoke inside, so are more visible on the streets of London, but I think it's much more than this... It's one of the most prominent things that I have noticed since moving to London. It may just be because I've spent the last couple of years in LA, where there'd been a smoking ban since the late 80's, which moved the the rest of the state in the mid 90's (There's now a ban on smoking in parks). I hardly saw anyone smoking, and people that did were very much in the minority, and at times singled out. Maybe this means that it will take a few years for London to adopt the same non-smoking culture as LA. No, maybe not. I don't think it will happen for a number of reasons. Firstly, London is way more stressful than LA, people are more highly strung, the weather is more dreary, things run at a much faster pace here, which may drive more people to spark up. London is more similar to NY, where I remember way more people smoking out and about. As a non-smoker, I would definitely love more people around here to quit. There really is no excuse for smoking these days, so I don't know why so many people still do it here. But hey, it's up to them I guess.
