Bush Wanted

More blatant bias in world politics...

The news just out tells us that the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court will seek an arrest warrant for the Sudanese President, Omar al-Bashir, for "crimes against humanity". [Source: Islam Online]

Al-Bashir

This is mainly due to the civil war which has been waging in Darfur, where al-Bashir has been said to have not done enough to stop the killing of some 300,000 people since 2003. Details of the war in Darfur, which the United States have named a "genocide" can be found on the Internet, and are beyond the scope of this little entry. I just wanted to ask who was the bigger war criminal al-Bashir or Bush? The following is a brief list of treaties, and agreements that have been violated by the Bush administration. [Source: Friends of the Earth]

Rogue State:
  - List of International Obligations violated by George W. Bush
  - US as nuclear rogue

International Law Relating to nuclear weapons:
  - International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion
  - Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty
  - Non Proliferation Treaty
  - Geneva Conventions Protocol
  - UN Charter
  - US Constitution.

Environmental Agreements:
  - Failure to Ratify Kyoto Agreement on Climate Change:
  - Framework Convention on Tobacco Control

The list doesn't even include the crimes surrounding the invasion of Iraq and the recent evidence of the condoning of torture, but don't worry, details of that can be found at the Bush Commission.org

Al-Bashir has been instrumental in crimes against his own people, which have affected the surrounding region. However, Bush has been instrumental in crimes that have affected the rest of the world. Yet the ICC have not even motioned towards getting a warrant for Bush's arrest. You may say that the reason for this (ignoring the fact that they don't seem to have the guts) is that the United States is not a signatory of the Rome Statute of the ICC, and hence is not under their jurisdiction. But Sudan is not a signatory either! In fact way back when the treaty was started, it was initially signed by Bill Clinton, but was then unsigned by Bush in 2002. Sudan was never a part.

I'm by no means saying that the ICC don't have grounds for arresting al-Bashir (to be honest I don't know enough of the situation to say) But if al-Bashir is being handed a warrant, it's only fair that Bush should get one too. Wouldn't it be so nice if...

Arrest Bush

but I'm not holding my breath.
